Metlab was founded in 1982 to answer one kind of question: is it sound? Today we answer it for Ireland’s pharmaceutical plants, utilities, contractors and manufacturers — with the country’s broadest accredited testing, inspection and certification capability.

From a Cork NDT house to one of Ireland's and the UK's leading independent engineering inspection providers — the milestones that made Metlab.
1982
Founded in Cork
Metlab is established to serve the engineering inspection and non-destructive testing needs of Irish industry and utility providers.
Late 1990s
Materials testing division
A construction materials testing division is created, extending the laboratory into soils, aggregates and concrete.
2020
First certified electrofusion course in Ireland
Partnering with Impact Training at the initiative of the Waterford & Wexford ETB, Metlab helps develop Ireland’s first certified PE electrofusion welding course to I.S. EN 13067.
2023
Joins the WH Scott Group
Metlab becomes the testing, inspection and certification arm of the WH Scott Group — a specialist engineering family founded in 1897.
2025
Infrastruct joins the group
Ireland’s specialist bridge and structural condition-assessment consultancy becomes Metlab’s dedicated bridge asset management unit.
2026
Expansion into Great Britain
Workplace Inspection Services Ltd (South Wales, est. 2011) joins Metlab — the group’s eighth acquisition and Metlab’s first GB operation, adding LOLER, PUWER, PSSR and COSHH inspection.
International reach
Irish-rooted — working across Europe and beyond.
Ireland and the UK are home, but our inspection, NDT and testing teams travel to where the work is. Metlab is currently delivering projects in Denmark, and has completed engineering inspection and testing programmes in Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Oman and Angola.
